The Third Variable is a space for thoughtful exploration of the nuances in social science. We invite students and researchers to contribute original essays, critiques, and insights that unveil the unseen complexities of our global environment. Help us move beyond binary discourse.
Guidelines for Nuanced Thinking
Scope & Subject: We accept most topics that allow for substantiated argument or exploration. However, we encourage writers to avoid blatantly controversial or sensitive topics if they are unable to present a neutral, purely analytical scope. A specific, direct topic is much preferred over a broad topic, such as how 'Impacts of AI' is too generic of a subject to offer good analysis
Length & Depth: Aim for 300-1,000. We prioritize depth and structural clarity over brevity, ensuring every claim is thoroughly explored. Unbounded does not penalise for length, whether too long or too short, but writers must ensure that their claims are clear and supported.
Tone: We encourage writers to maintain a journalistic tone in the writing of their articles. Jargon may be used when it assists in the academic coherence of the article, but should be not used in excess.
Citations: Use hyperlinks for digital sources and APA style for formal citations.
